The efficiency add on

What this service is, and why it's worth adding

Skylight and solar panel cleaning is the gentle exterior cleaning of the glass and panels on your roof, removing the film of dust, pollen, salt, leaf litter and bird droppings that builds up in Sydney conditions. Solar panels only generate from the light that reaches the cells, so grime is literally money left on the roof, and bird droppings are worse than dust because they create concentrated shading on part of a panel. Skylights are the same story with light instead of power: a grimy dome or pane quietly dims the room below, and most people don’t notice until it’s cleaned.

Why not DIY

The honest reason to have us do it

It’s not that cleaning glass is hard. It’s that reaching it isn’t worth the risk. Panels and skylights sit in the middle of roof planes, past the point where a ladder helps, and wet glass on a pitched roof is genuinely dangerous territory. Panels also need the right method: soft brushes and water, no pressure washers that can force water past seals, no harsh chemicals that damage coatings, and no walking on the panels themselves, ever.

Because we’re on the roof for gutter cleans anyway, with safe work methods and roofing experience underfoot, adding the panels and skylights costs far less than a standalone specialist visit, and saves you from having to access the roof yourself.

Straight answers

The questions we get asked about panels and skylights.

No sales spin. Here’s how we’d answer them on the phone.

Yes. Panels generate from the light that reaches the cells, and a film of dust, pollen, salt and grime blocks a measurable slice of it. How much depends on your site: near the coast, under trees, or beside a busy road, buildup is faster and losses are larger, and bird droppings are the worst offender because they create concentrated shading that drags down a whole panel rather than dimming it evenly. Rain alone doesn’t fix it, it mostly redistributes the grime. If your panels have never been cleaned, the before and after difference is usually visible to the naked eye.

Yes, done the way manufacturers specify: soft brushes or cloths, water, and nothing else. We never pressure wash panels, because forced water can get past edge seals, and we never use harsh chemicals that can damage the anti reflective coating on the glass. We also never stand or kneel on panels, all cleaning is done from the roof surface beside them. This is exactly the gentle method panel manufacturers describe in their care guidelines, so you get the output back without doing anything a warranty assessor could object to.

Yes, and that’s how most people book it, because it’s by far the cheapest way to get it done. The expensive part of any rooftop service is safe access: getting equipped people onto the roof properly. Once we’re up there for your gutter clean, adding the panels and skylights is efficient for us and cheap for you, compared with paying a specialist to mobilise for glass alone. Just tick the add on in the quote form, or mention it when we’re in touch, and we’ll price the combination.

For most Sydney homes, once a year keeps panels performing close to their potential, timed nicely with an annual or six monthly gutter clean. Push that to every six months if you’re near the coast, where salt film builds constantly, under overhanging trees, or anywhere birds have decided your panels are furniture. Flat or low tilt panels also get dirtier faster because rain doesn’t sheet off them as effectively. If we’re cleaning your gutters on a recurring plan, we’ll simply tell you when the panels look due, since we can see them every visit.

No, we clean exterior surfaces only, and honestly, that’s the half you can’t do yourself. The outside of a skylight takes the weather, the grime, the leaf litter and the bird traffic, and it sits in the middle of a roof plane where reaching it safely is the whole problem. The inside face is usually accessible from within the house with a pole and a microfibre cloth. If your skylight is still dim after an exterior clean, we’ll tell you, and we’ll also flag anything we notice about the seals or flashing while we’re at it.
